GCSE Maths 9-1 Course Cumulative Frequency Curves

At York Maths Tutor we are focusing on working through the GCSE Maths 9-1 course and highlighting areas of the course which have changed since the curriculum was totally overhauled back in 2015. Cumulative Frequency curves are what we are looking at this week. There are many different types of cumulative frequency curve questions that now appear on the GCSE Maths exams. Many require the calculation of the interquartile range as well as the median. The most common question to catch students out is when the questions ask how many people got above a certain value. You have to read off the x axis then go up until you hit the cumulative frequency curve then read across to the y axis. When the questions asks for how many people above you need to subtract the value read from the Y axis from the total frequency to get the correct answer.
